Training Methodology:

Archaeological Diver Training is broken down into four separate sections.
  • Introduction to Underwater Archaeology Award
  • Archaeological Support Divers Award
    • Full Face Mask & Communications Training
  • Certificate in Archaeological and Scientific Diving
    • Technical Diving Core and Specialist Skills
  • Diploma in Archaeological and Scientific Dive Supervision

Individual members who wish to participate on live archaeological projects must have completed the Level 1 - Introduction to Underwater Archaeology Award prior to project participation.  Members can then choose to participate in additional projects and training to complete the Archaeological & Scientific Divers Certificate and the Dive Supervisors Diploma, completing individual modules along the way.  Throughout the syllabus, divers will train to specific standards of both the SDSC for scientific and archaeological competencies and HSE approved diver training agencies for Technical and Mixed Gas Diving.  Completion of the Archaeological Divers Certificate allows the diver to apply to the Scientific Diving Supervisory Council for their European Scientific Divers Award.

Members working towards their Certificates and Diplomas must have an in-date, annual HSE (AMED) Approved Diving Medical.
