Training Recreational & Professional Divers,
Archaeological & Scientific Students in
Underwater Archaeology and it's Diving Methodology.

The Archaeological Divers Association is a
Member of the Scientific Diving Supervisory Committee
The Archaeological Divers Association is a non-profit organisation that
specialises in the unique sub-discipline of Underwater Archaeology, and
includes archaeologists trained in the use of SCUBA equipment for the
purposes of survey and recording of archaeological sites, as well as
the specific competencies required for excavation and conservation when
deemed necessary.
As well as professional archaeologists, the ADA utilise ‘recreational’ divers as enthusiastic amateurs that have been trained in the same principles of underwater archaeology to a standardised syllabus to assist in larger projects on a ‘volunteer’ basis, similar to terrestrial projects that open excavations and recording to individuals who complete archaeology as a hobby. This standardisation of training is a fundamental basic that creates a safe and enjoyable working environment, with all project participants working to one standard goal.

The Archaeological Divers Association is:
A International body with worldwide membership. It provides training materials; standards in underwater archaeological and scientific diver training; Awards qualifications and helps in accreditation and standards in underwater archaeological practice in accordance with the standards of recognised competent bodies such as the SDSC, UNESCO and the UK BAJR Federation.
A Professional Body, representing all personnel and associates allied to this unique sub-discipline of archaeology, whatever their professional branch of science that is incorporated within holistic archaeological investigations. An Operational Body, where staff, members and volunteers, provide professional archaeological scientific investigations in a diverse range of underwater and inter-tidal settings. A Training Body, delivering courses allied to the standards and competencies of the Scientific Diving Supervisory Committee and designing and developing courses in underwater archaeology to facilitate the safe retrieval and collection of scientific data. An Advisory Body, providing advice and guidance to members, volunteers and other professional and recreational bodies on issues relating to underwater archaeological investigations.
The ethos of the ADA is “A Deeper Understanding of the Past”. The ADA provides the most up to date [recreational] diver training and incorporates safe diving practices within the realms of archaeological, scientific diving. The ADA draws upon the professional experiences of qualified staff in the field of both diving and archaeology, therefore the combined efforts of all Directors, Staff and Members ensures success in achieving professional investigative data for the continued education of future generations in the protection of the shared, worldwide, underwater cultural heritage in accordance with UNESCO guidelines and individual countries legislation.
